H.E. Mr. Rashid Al Khalifa, Advisor to the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Mark Downes, DCAF’s Acting Director today in a first visit of its kind. Ayman Ayoub, Head of our MENA team, and Jean-Michel Rousseau, Deputy Head of our Business & Security team, briefed Al Khalifa on DCAF’s mandate and work in the MENA region and globally, including recent trainings for border security officials in Qatar. Al Khalifa and DCAF agreed to explore opportunities to cooperate on future SSG/R initiatives.
17 Aug 2022We were honored to welcome Urgamal Byambasuren Deputy Head of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of Mongolia, and Enkhtaivan Dashnyam, Deputy Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office in Geneva and their team to our headquarters to discuss various initiatives in security sector reform and good governance, past engagements with Mongolia, and possible future collaborations. Mongolia has been a valued member of our Foundation Council since 2014.
17 Aug 2022Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee, Hamad International Airport and DCAF conducted a series of trainings on human rights for border management officials. The training emphasized the priority of international best practices in human rights in border governance procedures. According to Hamad Salem Al-Hajri of the Human Rights Committee, the trainings were important to best manage the demand of welcoming a high volume of visitors while maintaining effective security, customs, and administrative border operations.
16 Aug 2022Last week the National Police of Colombia and the Foundation for Press Freedom launched a set of guidelines to help address ongoing tensions and mistrust between the media and police. The guidelines are a milestone, marking more than two years of collaboration and commitment to improving their working relationship. This initiative was funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of our project to help strengthen the oversight role of civil society and the media in Colombia. 05 Aug 2022This week we marked a milestone in our support for the reform initiatives undertaken by the Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP). Started in 2020, our programme has helped senior leadership to define a change management process that will strengthen the efficiency and accountability of the police. It has also seen the development of the EFP’s first comprehensive public complaints mechanism, and a clear framework for the collection and analysis of forensic evidence – the first of its kind in the region.
