A strategic approach to gender equality in North Macedonia Last week, DCAF was with members of the Ministry of Defence and armed forces of North Macedonia to support the development of a strategic gender action plan for the two institutions. It will build upon the foundation of the previously conducted gender self-assessment process and the resulting insights and recommendations. The Gender Action Plan will contain set of short-term objectives designed to foster better gender mainstreaming within these defense institutions. It’s part of our long-term support for reform and good governance initiatives in North Macedonia. 21 Feb 2024

Putting SDG16 at the heart of ombuds institutions Sustainable Development Goal 16 promotes peaceful and inclusive societies, access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions. With a mandate to oversee public services through citizen complaints and investigations, ombuds institutions play a crucial role in making SDG 16 a reality for people and communities. The Kenyan Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) – also known as the Office of the Ombudsman - recently invited DCAF to do a two-day training on how to align the strategic priorities of ombuds institutions with the SDGs. The workshop was attended by the CAJ Chairperson Florence Kajuju, CEO Mercy Wambua, and Commissioners Washington Sati and Lucy Ndungu. 19 Feb 2024

Supporting access to justice through ombuds services in Kenya Through holding legal aid clinics in Kenya’s Moyale, Isiolo, and Meru counties, the Commission on Administrative Justice (aka Ombudsman Kenya) is bringing legal services to those most in need. The clinics provide a one-stop shop to submit complaints and receive legal aid. They also play a key role in educating and sensitizing rural and marginalized communities about their human and legal rights, and how to protect them. Our support for the Ombudsman Kenya ties into Sustainable Development Goal 16 -  promoting the rule of law and ensuring access to justice for all.  It's made possible thanks to the generosity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands.  13 Feb 2024
