This week we met with partners in an expert mentoring session at the Police Training Centre in Sremska Kamenica, Serbia. We discussed new ways to deliver police integrity training, and highlight the range of knowledge products DCAF has developed to support police reforms, including an integrity building training manual, toolkit and two levels of an e-learning course.27 May 2022
More than 100 people attended the launch of the MOWIP report for the National Police of Uruguay this week. The report examines the barriers and opportunities inside the police force and gives policy and operational recommendations to make it easier for female officers to serve as UN peacekeepers. Uruguay is one of 8 countries undertaking a DCAF-supported MOWIP analysis through the Canada funded Elsie Initiative.27 May 2022
This week we were pleased to welcome numerous experts from EU and partner organizations to the 2022 DCAF Days in Brussels. This year’s two days of meetings explored the role of SSG/R in the implementation of the European Union's recently published Strategic Compass - a plan of action for strengthening its security and defence policy by 2030. DCAF has for many years supported EU organizations and member states in the design and implementation of SSG/R policy and programming.25 May 2022
This week we welcomed partners in our Regional Police Cooperation and Integrity Building Programme (PCIB) for an end of programme review. Over many years the PCIB enhanced the capacity of law enforcement organizations in the Western Balkans to fight cross-border organized crime and corruption. It’s also worked to harmonize regional law enforcement standards with the EU acquis and best practices. This week’s event reviewed the achievements of the PCIB, the challenges it faced, and areas for future police collaboration in the region.24 May 2022
Director Thomas Guerber and Cristina Hoyos, Head of Latin America & Caribbean Unit, accompanied by the Swiss Ambassador to Colombia, Eric Mayoraz, met with General Hoover Penilla, Deputy Director of the Colombian National Police to formalize the extension of the strategic partnership between DCAF and the Police. They discussed our ongoing support and plans for the future collaborative work, especially with regard to reform processes that include civil society and media in their important oversight role.19 May 2022
