Our Director Nathalie Chuard (left) was in Berlin to meet with Anka Feldhusen, Director for Crisis Prevention and Stabilisation in Germany’s Directorate-General for Crisis Prevention, Stabilisation, Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Assistance. It’s always a great day when we get to meet with one of our long-standing strategic partners to talk about our current projects, and look ahead to new ideas on how we can continue to collaborate and help build the foundations for peace and sustainable development through SSG/R. Germany is a founding member of DCAF’s Foundation Council and a core contributor to the Trust Fund for North Africa, the International Conference of Ombuds Institutions for the Armed Forces (ICOAF), and our International Security Sector Advisory Team.
03 Oct 2024Thank you to the International Organization of La Francophonie for hosting us and an interactive workshop on the role of defense and security actors in responding to the challenges generated by climate change and environmental degradation. In many fragile and conflict-affected states especially, climate change endangers efforts to secure peace and security while deepening inequalities. We research ways in which the security sector can help manage the societal pressures from the climate crisis, and also how climate change may eventually (re)shape its work and operational environment.
02 Oct 2024Recently our Director, Nathalie Chuard, met with Pedro Vaca Villarreal, Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, to discuss how DCAF’s Regional Media & Police programme aligns with the organization’s recommendations on press freedom and the protection of journalists. The five-country programme is an expansion of a project that began in Colombia and resulted in the first-ever guidelines for its national police to interact with the media. Chuard and Villarreal explored potential areas for future collaboration between DCAF and the Commission to expand our work promoting press freedoms across Latin America.
01 Oct 2024DCAF proudly joined in to mark the annual SDG Flag Day in support of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Since 2019, schools, communities, organisations, businesses, and governments around the world have raised the flag to champion the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2030 Agenda is the global framework designed to help find joint solutions for worldwide challenges such as climate change, health crises, insecurity, and a lack of access to justice. SSG/R is a direct contributor to the achievement of SDG 16 – peace, justice, and strong institutions.
27 Sep 2024Last week, experts from across DCAF’s teams came together to share experiences and insights on how to overcome the challenges of getting youth meaningfully engaged in security sector reform and oversight mechanisms. One of the most valuable assets for any team is the collective knowledge of its members. Sharing insights, experiences, and ideas strengthens our teamwork and enhances the effectiveness of our projects. The session highlighted linkages between SSG/R and the YPS agenda, national action plans, and strategies for incorporating youth perspectives into policy and practice.
