Police Campaign in Honduras
To coincide with the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, DCAF hosted a webinar on how different police forces in Latin America have dealt with the unique impacts of the pandemic on domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence. The session included the reflection of active police officers from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, and Mexico. Over 330 participants joined this live streamed event, which reflected the high interest in this topic.
This event was organized in partnership with the Honduran National Police and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC.

EVENT CLOSING REMARKS

Latin America has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world, and the impact of COVID has caused the situation to worsen even further.
Restrictive public health regulations to combat the spread of the coronavirus have inadvertently increased levels of GBV and the capacity burden on policing, by having to adopt a new role of public health law enforcers.
The insights of active police officers and experts from across the region contribute to DCAF’s work in supporting the innovation in policing during this challenging time.
Here we offer closing remarks from the webinar shared by the Head of DCAF’s LAC Unit and the Deputy Chief of SDC in Honduras.
