Description

To address the identified need for credible, standardised data on women’s particular in justice and security institutions, over 2026 the United Nations in partnership with DCAF has developed the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security.

The Portal presents groundbreaking new data from around the world on women’s participation in police, corrections, judiciary, military justice and mine action institutions.

Building on the survey process toward the 2024 UN report Towards Equal Opportunities for Women in Defence, over 2026 the United Nations and DCAF conducted a first round of a global data collection on women's participation across justice and security institutions. Data collected through the surveys, along with other materials on good practices and female leaders, is brought together in the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security.

As Member States continue to contribute data through successive survey rounds, the Portal will become an increasingly comprehensive and robust source for identifying global and regional trends, benchmarking progress, and generating comparable evidence over time – supporting peer learning, evidence-based policymaking, and performance monitoring on a scale not currently possible, and so promoting inclusive security and justice systems worldwide.

The briefing notes on the findings are available in English, French and Spanish.
