Congress creates specialized committees to oversee implementation of the SDGs in the Philippines

In the Philippines, Congress has established specialized committees in both houses (the Senate and House of Representatives) to oversee implementation of the SDGs.

In the House, the Committee on Sustainable Development Goals is tasked with attending to 'all matters directly and principally relating to the achievement of the country's commitment to the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development'; and in the Senate, the Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking is responsible for 'all matters relating to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Assessment of the country's performance in attaining said development goals'. These committees have taken actions that include: filing numerous resolutions in the House to keep the government on track in its commitment to achieving the SDGs, urging legislators to incorporate the 2030 Agenda into bills, and directing the National Economic and Development Authority to identify local government units that are committed to realizing the SDGs and recommend them for congressional commendation.
