Women experience greater inclusion in peacemaking and security governance in the Philippines

In the Philippines, the Bangsamoro peace process provided for the increased representation of women in key positions, for example as chief peace negotiator and legal counsel. Women have also seen increased participation in the countrys security governance.

Good practices that have facilitated the greater participation of women in security governance in the Philippines include efforts encouraging female soldiers to join interagency bodies and actively seek engagement with civil society, as well as women, peace and security trainings' for members of the armed forces that are meant to create safe spaces for women in uniform. The outcomes of these activities have been positive in terms of advancing SDG 5 on gender equality.
