On Thursday 3 March, in conjunction with the Danish Refugee Council, Studio TAMANI and the media network, DCAF helped to improve the capacity of journalists to address gender-based topics in the security sector by providing access to a training course entitled "Gender, media and governance of the security sector". Thirty-three journalists, all of whom are members of the Security Sector Reform (SSR) media network, took part in this training program which is deemed to be a key component of the Action Plan developed by the network. The session enabled participants to express their opinions and perceptions of key SSR concepts. It paved the way for insightful discussions about the need to address the stereotypes which promote the exclusion of women. Journalists' activities also involved an exercise in how to use a DCAF tool which ensures that gender is effectively factored into any analysis of SSR and Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) processes. The studies and teaching materials produced by DCAF were handed out to participants and are accessible here The training received considerable media coverage in Mali: Please listen: programme director of the Danish Demining Group (DDG), Ornella Moderan, talks about the SSR Media Network training day Please read:
