Launch of a new policy brief on Women, Peace and Security in military spending

As part of the UN Security Council Women, Peace and Security Week, DCAF, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and UN Women are convening diplomats, policymakers and practitioners to discuss how military spending can better support Women, Peace and Security commitments.

As global military expenditure continues to climb, WPS priorities are often overlooked in defence resource allocation and oversight processes. This event will explore practical ways to integrate WPS considerations into defence planning, budgeting, accountability and governance.

- Joy Watson, former parliamentary advisor and gender-responsive budgeting expert, South Africa
- Patrick Kwasi Brobbey, Ph.D., Transparency International

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers on questions including:
 - What does it mean to apply a WPS lens to military spending?
 - How can defence budgets better support national WPS commitments?
 - What practical steps can defence institutions, parliaments and oversight actors take to strengthen accountability and transparency?
