Description

This learning workbook has been developed for security sector personnel as a guide to meaningfully integrating gender and intersectionality approaches in everyday practice. Through individual and group exercises with themes ranging from use of force policies and deciding on night shift rotas, the workbook covers basic concepts related to gender and intersectionality, explains why they are essential to the mandate of security institutions and includes practical tips to promoting gender equality and inclusive security.

The workbook also features the NAPRI+ tool developed by DCAF to perform a simple gender and intersectionality analysis.

The annex includes a facilitator guide to support them in implementing the workbook as an interactive training with a group. It contains useful tips on how to handle difficult conversations around power and identity in order to create a safe space for learning.

Providing security for populations requires seeing everyone.

Intersectionality allows us to make decisions based on facts, not assumptions.
