Alan Bryden

Alan leads DCAF’s work developing innovative partnerships with governments, the private sector and civil society to improve security, sustainable development, and respect for human rights. Previously, Alan held various policy and operational roles within DCAF including as interim Head of the International Security Sector Advisory Team.

Prior to joining DCAF, he was a UK civil servant, serving as focal point for international humanitarian law in the Ministry of Defence, and project manager in the field of humanitarian demining with the Department for International Development.

Alan holds degrees in history and international relations and a PhD from the Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford. He has published widely in the field of SSG/R.
