Fueling the conversation about SSG/R in Moldova DCAF was pleased to be part of the first ever Moldova Security Forum alongside government officials, international stakeholders, and local civil society groups. Among the dozens of sessions that took place over three days, we explored NATO partnerships, hybrid threats, crisis management as a key to resilience, and how to ensure regional security stability. We also organized a panel session on the climate crisis, and the link between climate change, the security sector, and human security. DCAF has a multi-year project in Moldova that is supporting the government with its strategic reforms to ensure good governance of security institutions. 02 Dec 2024

DCAF’s International Partners’ Group Earlier this month we hosted the semi-annual meeting of our International Partners’ Group (IPG) in which we explore emerging trends and challenges in security sector governance and reform. The IPG are member states and institutions who want to build their own capacity in good security and justice governance practices and enhance the effectiveness of the SSR programming in the countries in which they work. Through our International Security Sector Advisory Team, DCAF provides tailored technical expertise, insight on emerging issues, and advice on how to coordinate better as donor states to achieve a greater impact, especially in conflict-affected and fragile contexts. 29 Nov 2024

Applying international cybersecurity standards in Western Balkans DCAF was in Montenegro recently to organize a workshop for the Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Centre on responsible state behaviour in cyberspace governance. The discussion focused on the UN Framework and the EU’s role in cyber diplomacy. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and cyber policy makers from the six Western Balkans economies. The workshop rounded off with a table-top exercise for participants to apply the theory of international standards to a practical issue in national cybersecurity governance. 27 Nov 2024

New research on family caregiving responsibilities and peacebuilding We are pleased to announce the launch of research from a collaborative project with the Global Peace and Security Centre at Monash University exploring how caring responsibilities affect careers in peacebuilding. The Who Cares in Peacebuilding? report found the vast majority of caregivers —especially women with children – had to leave or change their work in the sector and found their deployment opportunities and thus career progression limited. The report highlights the importance of supporting peacebuilders with caring responsibilities and the positive knock-on effect on improving gender equality and enabling sustainable peace.  26 Nov 2024
