UN SSR Community of Practice Webinar Vincenza Scherrer, DCAF's Head of Policy Engagement, presented to the UN security sector reform Community of Practice our common policy brief "Governing security, preventing violence". It draws on lessons from 15 country contexts to examine how SSG/R can make a more meaningful contribution to violence prevention. It highlights how the security sector shapes both risk and resilience, outlines security sector governance and reform priorities through a prevention lens, proposes 10 risk assessment factors, and offers practical policy recommendations.  16 Jan 2026

Launch of the "Teaching gender in the military handbook" in Poland DCAF participated in the Partnership for Peace Consortium event hosted in Poland by the Polish Naval Academy with the Polish Ministry of National Defence. This event explored the evolving concept of human security, a comprehensive framework addressing the risks and threats to populations during military operations, conflict, or instability. It invited multi-dimensional perspectives from practitioners, policymakers, and academics across the Consortium. DCAF also presented the 2025 edition of "Teaching gender in the military: a handbook".  12 Jan 2026

Launch of press-police guides in Honduras and Mexico DCAF officially launched Guides for strengthening relations between the police and the press in Mexico and Honduras, representing a milestone for democratic dialogue. The Guides are the culmination of 3 years of joint work with journalists and police officers coming together for the first time to exchange perspectives, and build shared solutions based on democratic responsibility.  The Guides establish practical frameworks to improve police–press interaction, protect human rights, and enhance safety in public security environments. 07 Jan 2026

Biannual Foundation Council meeting We were pleased to welcome the members of our biannual Foundation Council meeting at DCAF’s headquarters. The session offered our President Amin Awad and our Director Nathalie Chuard, the opportunity to present and secure approval for the 2026 workplan and budget. It was also a moment to warmly welcome three new members whose experience and perspectives will strengthen the Council. We extend our sincere appreciation to all Council members, as well as the countries they represent, for their steady support and commitment. 26 Dec 2025

11th security sector governance and reform workshop DCAF partnered with the National Defense College of the Philippines and the FES Asia-Pacific for the 11th security sector governance and reform workshop at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. We discussed maritime security sector governance, both from the Philippine perspective and with comparative examples from elsewhere. We were glad to see so much interest – over 50 people joined – and we always enjoy working with our longtime partners in The Philippines. 12 Dec 2025
