DCAF and IRES signed a Memorandum of Understanding On Wednesday, 22 April, DCAF and IRES signed a Memorandum of Understanding, outlining the framework for future collaboration. DCAF's Director, Ambassador Nathalie Chuard and Mr. Mohammed Tawfik Mouline, Director General of IRES, exchanged views on the importance of people-centred good governance of the security sector to respond effectively to emerging regional security trends and threats. DCAF and IRES are committed to jointly promote long-term reflections, in-depth research and multistakeholder dialogues on topics of high strategic interest.  24 Apr 2026

Launch of the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security DCAF and the United Nations Peacebuilding and Peace Support office brought together Member States’s representatives, including gender focal points, and experts in New York, to launch the United Nations Portal on Women in Justice and Security. The Portal is a concrete tool to support implementation.  From meeting gender parity targets in UN peace operations to advancing SDG16, the Portal will provide the evidence base that policy and reform efforts need. Member States are encouraged to respond to the official UN questionnaires by 30 June 2026. 17 Apr 2026

Visit to the West African Regional Centre for Maritime Security As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with international partners in the field of maritime security and governance in the Gulf of Guinea, the DCAF delegation visited CRESMAO (the West African Regional Centre for Maritime Security). During the visit, CRESMAO provided a detailed overview of its mandate, missions and regional role within the ECOWAS Integrated Maritime Strategy. We also identified potential areas of collaboration in governance, capacity building, and regional coordination. 09 Apr 2026

The increased militarisation of technology DCAF and Privacy International hosted an in-person discussion on “The Militarisation of Technology: Privatised Surveillance and Security.” The panel brought together experts from civil society and research organizations from Latin America, Southwest Asia, and North and Sub-Saharan Africa to explore how technologies originally developed for civilian markets are increasingly used in security and military contexts, and how this cross-fertilisation is shaping surveillance and security governance. 07 Apr 2026
