2026 Heads of Country Office Meeting This week, DCAF gathered its country office leadership in Geneva for our annual meeting. Over three days, we got to exchange perspectives on our work, challenges, and insights from the ground. It was a great pleasure to host our DCAF colleagues from all over the world. DCAF's country offices are central to our core mission. By shaping context-specific security sector governance and reform programmes, especially at this critical time, we can achieve tangible results and shape the future together. 10-day training-of-trainers to address mental health In partnership with the Peacekeeping School and with support from Switzerland and the Netherlands, DCAF launched a 10-day training-of-trainers programme in Bamako on the prevention of stress, traumatic stress, and post-traumatic stress within the defence and security forces. With the participation of Mali's police, gendarmerie, national guard and armed forces, it is building a pool of qualified trainers equipped to address mental health in operational contexts.  04 May 2026

Female leadership workshop in Ougadougou, Burkina Faso In April, DCAF held a regional workshop on female leadership in Ougadougou with the Gender Focal Points from the security forces of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. It brought together female participants from the police, gendarmerie, army and civil protection institutions, as well as ministerial representatives to discuss the gender mainstreaming issues in their countries and share their experience in security institutions. A big thank to all the participants for their engagement and the Burkina Faso DCAF Office for the brilliant work on the video. 30 Apr 2026

DCAF Gender focal points network in action DCAF’s Gender focal points network recently held its first quarterly meeting of the year. It was a good opportunity to reflect on two years of progress and discuss the next steps. Through interactive discussions and group exercises, our colleagues shared insights on what’s working, where we can improve, and how to further embed a gender-sensitive and intersectional approach across our work. We finished it off with practical guidance to help colleagues set clear and meaningful gender objectives in their work.  27 Apr 2026

DCAF and IRES signed a Memorandum of Understanding On Wednesday, 22 April, DCAF and IRES signed a Memorandum of Understanding, outlining the framework for future collaboration. DCAF's Director, Ambassador Nathalie Chuard and Mr. Mohammed Tawfik Mouline, Director General of IRES, exchanged views on the importance of people-centred good governance of the security sector to respond effectively to emerging regional security trends and threats. DCAF and IRES are committed to jointly promote long-term reflections, in-depth research and multistakeholder dialogues on topics of high strategic interest.  24 Apr 2026
