On 10 March, the first meeting of the Mali project steering committee was held with leading national partners: the Security Sector Reform Commission (CRSS), Mali's Security and Civil Protection Services Inspectorate (ISSPC) and civil society organisations (CSO). Committee members reflected on the principal achievements from 2017-2019 and their priorities for 2020, while the DCAF team presented the strategic approach of its action in Mali. One of the noteworthy developments concerns the key role of the SSR Commission, under the direction of the Division General, M’Bemba Moussa Keita, SSR commissioner, which now reports directly to the Prime Minister. Members of the steering committee, in representation of their national institutions, undertook to enhance their collaborative efforts with a view to achieving a common reform objective, setting greater store by the lessons learned, and sharing good practices based on clear and precise indicators. The steering committee reasserted the need to support the SSR project and process in Mali through political will and robust leadership |
