Parliamentarians adopt the Code on the Rights of the Child in Georgia

In Georgia, parliament has adopted the Code on the Rights of the Child, fulfilling its pledge under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and legally guaranteeing that children can exercise and protect their rights. In parallel, a new helpline was launched, to broaden access to justice for children at risk of abuse and mistreatment.

The Code is based on one key principle; that all legislative and administrative procedures should be developed and implemented with primary consideration given to the best interests of the child. Thus, it guides all state agencies, local government bodies, other administrative bodies and the Common Courts, and public and private organizations in how to work with and for children.
