The National Human Rights Commission puts forth Guidelines on Policing Public Assemblies in The Gambia

In The Gambia, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued Guidelines on Policing Public Assemblies, which stipulates a code of conduct aimed at preventing violence by law enforcement during demonstrations and protests.

This will encourage respect for human rights and protect public order, peace, and security, while improving law enforcement, in line with international standards. Because this initiative helps protect civic space and improves security sector governance by making institutions accountable, it directly contributes to the realization of SDG Target 16.7. It also advances SDG targets on reducing all forms of violence (16.1) and on the effective protection of fundamental freedoms (16.10).

Activity Report
16.1 Reduce Violence Everywhere
16.10 Ensure Public Access to Information and Protect Fundamental Freedoms
16.7 Ensure Responsive Inclusive and Representative Decision-Making
