The National Human Rights Commission conducts study and develops policy on sexual harassment in The Gambia

In The Gambia, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) conducted a first-of-its-kind study in the country on sexual harassment in the workplace, and subsequently developed a Sexual Harassment in the Workplace policy.

The study undertaken by the NHRC focused on the forms, prevalence, effects, and factors driving sexual harassment in both public and private workplaces in The Gambia, and presented recommendations on how to effectively address and eliminate the phenomenon. The policy developed as a result of this research is meant to provide a tool for eliminating sexual harassment in workplaces; directly contributing to SDG targets on reducing violence everywhere (16.1) and on developing effective, accountable, and transparent institutions (16.6).
