In Kenya, the National Commission on Human Rights has developed an internal digital platform to capture information on rising tensions and outbreaks of violence, based on complaints received by its staff across the countrys five regions.
This information is analysed, translated into a hotspot map, and used as part of an early warning system to evaluate systemic trends and address them before violence erupts. The system proved successful at preventing outbreaks of violence during the 2022 election period. Additionally, the system is used to guide the focus of training and monitoring by indicating which areas are at a greater risk of conflict.
