Discussing experiences and sharing good practices: Mali & Côte d’Ivoire

A Malian delegation, comprising representatives of the National Security Sector Reform Commission (NSSRC), the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection (MSPC) and the Ministry of Defence, travelled to Abidjan to discuss good practices in the field of Security Sector Reform (SSR) with representatives of the Ivorian National Security Committee (NSC).

Following several institutional changes, the Malian NSSRC now reports directly to the Prime Minister and is set up to exercise its remit at a local level, pursuant to its decree of establishment, based on the Algiers Accords (2015).

In 2012, the Ivorian National Security Committee set in motion a SSR process which saw the establishment of local security committees in all of its regions and administrative departments. The discussions identified areas of the Ivorian experience from which inspiration could be drawn, determined the most appropriate individuals and resources to support the Malian effort to set up Security Advisory Committees (CCS), considered the mechanisms for planning, implementing and operationalising the CSS, and formulated a plan for monitoring the mission.
