The inauguration of a new Congress in Colombia, which includes for the first time former members of the FARC, provides an opportunity to work on strengthening the role of congress in the governance of the security sector in a way that can help the country face its evolving security challenges.
In order to support the role of the Colombian legislative branch in overseeing the security sector, DCAF, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Colombia (FESCOL), the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) and the Swedish Embassy in Colombia are offering members of Congress a platform, in form of conferences, for the exchanging of good practices in security sector oversight. This platform enables members of Congress to have better access to lessons learned from other regions while exchanging relevant experiences with their peers and MPs from across the globe, and in particular from Europe and Southeast Asia.
