Building bridges between the community and police DCAF’s Director Amb. Nathalie Chuard recently visited Colombia as part of our new regional programme that brings together journalists, civil society leaders, and the police. The goal is to improve security for journalists, human rights defenders, and community leaders. It will also support exchanges among the Ombuds Institutions of Colombia, Honduras, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. Participants discussed police-media relations, press freedom, and the risks faced by journalists reporting on the security sector in the region. The new multi-year programme builds on previous work, and is generously funded by Germany. 10 May 2024

Tackling peacebuilding challenges at the Stockholm Forum This week DCAF’s team is at the 2024 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development taking part in timely discussions on navigating a rapidly changing world. The Forum focuses on strategies to empower states as democratic and inclusive societies in an increasingly anarchic international system, while safeguarding the values of multilateralism. It also addresses growing mistrust and distrust between the Global North and South, and between citizens and their political representatives. A partner in the Forum, DCAF is taking the stage for a session about how security sector reforms are linked to the integration of Moldova and Ukraine into the European Union/NATO. 08 May 2024
