Project Officer Middle East (100%)

The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is dedicated to making states and people safer. Good security sector governance, based on the rule of law and respect for human rights, is the very basis of development and security. DCAF assists partner states in developing laws, institutions, policies and practices to improve the governance of their security sector through inclusive and participatory reforms based on international norms and good practices.

DCAF is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading centres of excellence for security sector governance (SSG) and security sector reform (SSR).

The Middle East and North Africa Division is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic person for the following position at its headquarters in Geneva:

                                                                                              Project Officer Middle East (100%)

Location: Geneva with frequent travel to the region

Starting date: 1 March 2018 or as per agreement

Your mission

The Project Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of projects and activities in one or more countries in the Middle East.

Main responsibilities and tasks:

  • Help to identify project opportunities and develop project ideas and proposals

  • Write Project project proposals, concept notes and reports

  • Plan and implement assigned projects

  • Monitor execution of budgets for project activities

  • Draft concept notes, policy briefs, implementation plans, logframes, monitoring plans, terms of reference and other project documents as directed

  • Co-design, co-organize and implement activities with partners

  • Contribute to timely and accurate delivery of programme reporting requirements

  • Provide support to field offices in the region

Your profile

  • An advanced university degree in law, political sciences, international relations, development, security studies or related field

  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in public sector reform or management, preferably within the fields of security and/or justice reform

  • Proven track record in managing projects, preferably in the MENA region

  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset

  • Very good writing skills

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in an international team

  • Cultural sensitivity, ideally familiarity with the Arab world
