Background

wHO WE ARE

Around the world, security functions traditionally provided by the state are increasingly undertaken by the private sector. However, security sector governance and reform processes commonly reflect a state-centric approach to security provision, management and oversight. DCAF’s Public-Private Partnerships Division promotes a holistic approach to SSG/R through:

  • Supporting effective oversight and accountability of the private security industry at global, regional and national levels
  • Promoting human rights-sensitive security practices with companies that operate in complex environments
  • Reinforcing multi-stakeholder initiatives and public-private partnerships that promote security, development and the protection of human rights
  • Providing knowledge services, including through the development of web-based platforms and multi-language tools.

Our Programmes

DCAF’s Public-Private Partnerships Division supports multi-stakeholder partnerships between states, parliaments, international organisations, civil society and the private sector that promote security, development and the respect for human rights.
