Project overview

Civil society plays a crucial role in overseeing the security sector to ensure that it responds to the security needs and priorities of women, men, boys and girls. CSOs can also contribute to better SSG by influencing security policy and supporting public institutions with specialised expertise, or by acting as a link between security institutions and civilians to build mutual confidence.

DCAF works with a variety of civil society actors, including CSOs specialised in security issues, human rights defenders, women’s organisations and the media, to provide them with the tools and skills for more effective contributions to SSG.
