Border Security Programme

The DCAF Border Security Programme contributes to raising the efficiency of border management authorities in Southeast Europe and fosters mutual cooperation to successfully mitigate modern and occurring security threats to regional and European border integrity. It aims to enhance the security of citizens and support the free movement of people, goods and ideas. 

Three main components constitute the Programme:

• police education and training;
• introduction of European/Schengen legislative and practical standards in border policing; and 
• operational cooperation in the fight against organised and cross-border crime.

By building regional capacities, by transferring European standards and good practices, and by responding to actual needs in the area of regional border management, the Programme contributes to the full implementation of the Integrated Border Management concept in the Southeast European region.
