Framework Project - Fostering Parliamentary Oversight of the Security Sector in the Western Balkans

The project aims to support national parliaments from the Western Balkans region in fulfilling their constitutional role as legislative, representative, and oversight bodies in the field of security and defence. The target group of the project includes institutions and individuals who play a role in the democratic governance and oversight of the security sector, primarily elected members and staff advisors from national Parliamentary Committees dealing with the security sector.

The project objectives will be achieved through a dual-track approach. A bilateral programme track provides tailor-made assistance to support national stakeholders in the process of further aligning laws, procedures, and practices to European standards. The bilateral programme track runs parallel to a regional programme track, providing a framework for sharing experiences, practices, and lessons learned from security sector reform and governance across Western Balkans, with the aim of fostering cooperation and confidence across the entire region.  All project activities are demand-led and responsive to local needs.

Launched in February 2012, the project has duration of 36 months.
