DCAF Activities in the Russian Federation and Belarus
DCAF activities in the Russian Federation have principally focused on parliamentary and civil society capacity building programmes. DCAF has sought to develop the capacity of stakeholders to discuss security sector reform priorities and address democratic oversight issues.
From 2001-2003 DCAF worked closely with the Defence Committee of the Russian Duma on a range of oversight issues. DCAF has also cooperated with the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, the CIS Military Coordination Staff, cooperated on a study of the CSTO, and supported several initiatives via the OSCE framework. A large number of key products on security governance issues have also been made available in the Russian language.
Additionally, in Belarus DCAF remains engaged with the government and civil society on a range of issues and possible programming entry points, and made available DCAF's publications.
