Assisting the Development of an ECOWAS Regional Framework for Security Sector Reform and Governance

ECOWAS has put forward security governance as one component of its conflict prevention strategy and as a precondition for a sustainable development. The ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework (ECPF), adopted in 2008 calls upon the ECOWAS Commission to adopt a Regional Framework on Security Sector Reform and Governance.

Following a request from the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department of the Commission, DCAF is providing technical assistance and advise to the revision of the draft Regional Framework, in line with the African Union Policy Framework on SSR, before it is presented to ECOWAS Members States for review.
