African Union

The African Union (AU) has a vital role in promoting peace and security on the African continent and plays an emerging role in the field of SSR. Supporting the development of the AU's SSR role is a strategic priority for DCAF. The AU has been an observer on DCAF's ISSAT Governing Board  since 2010.

 

 

DCAF contributes to the AU's SSR efforts by:

  • Contributing to the development of a continental SSR policy framework by the AU Commission .
  • Conducting capacity building activities on SSR with relevant staff in AU's Department of Peace and Security .
  • Providing advice and support to the AU upon request in countries where the AU is engaged in national SSR efforts.
